Coordinates activities of workers engages in the maintenance and repair of city streets and right-of-ways. Directly responsible for work orders assigned to individual work crews. Directs and assists with the assignments of a street crew in construction, maintenance, and repair of all city streets, sidewalks, and storm sewers.
Ensures street signs and walkways are properly maintained and marked and notifies maintenance supervisor and changes are needed.
Estimates equipment needs for jobs; keeps work, time and equipment records and maintains proper reports. Handles questions, concerns, and complaints from the general public with tact and diplomacy and follows up to ensure timely resolution of problems.
Inspects completed work for conformance to specifications and standards and gives reports to supervisor.
Enforces safety regulations.
Perform work of a skilled, semi-skilled or unskilled nature.
Other duties as assigned.
Maintains proper records for work orders, personnel records, and payroll information for personnel under direct supervision. Assists other crews in the Street, Sanitation, Maintenance, and Animal Control departments as directed by the Street Superintendent.
Directly supervises 2 to 8 employees in a Street crew. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the city"s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Basic Minimum Qualification Requirements
EDUCATION - H.S. Diploma or G.E.D. is required SUPERVISORY EXPERIENCE - Prior supervisory experience is preferred. DRIVER'S LICENSE - Valid Tennessee Driver's License with Class B CDL and clear driving record is required. Class A CDL is preferred or ability to obtain Class A CDL within 90 days. EXPERIENCE - Minimum of 3 years prior roadway and construction experience is preferred, which involves the use of light, medium and heavy equipment, some of which must have been related to road work, utility work, etc.
OR equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. Physical Requirements

Work is performed in the field completing work orders. Incumbent may be exposed to long periods of adverse weather conditions, dust, fumes, and noise. While performing the duties of this job, the employee works near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
This position is subject to being "on-call" (working after normal work hours and days) as determined by the Department Head.
