Job Purpose


Under the direction of the Principal, the Reading Specialist will manage and implement the schools Title I program and provide interventions to scholars to reach school-wide reading goals. The Reading Specialist is charged with creating a culture of reading that ensures strong reading instruction, excitement about books, and a genuine, institutional love for reading.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Set and hold students to extremely high academic and behavior standards.


  • Embody and demonstrate a loving, positive character and ensure that students exhibit the same values.


  • Take personal responsibility for the academic outcomes of every student delivering measurable academic growth and increasing every student’s achievement.


  • Set measurable, ambitious, and attainable goals for the year and each interim assessment cycle. Develop and implement daily lesson plans as part of a long-term Scope & Sequence aligned to the curricular goals of EAGLE.


  • Develop a positive, achievement-oriented and structured learning environment so that all students are invested in their academic excellence and can fulfill their potential.


  • Build rapport with students, parents, and families so they understand unambiguously that teachers love them.


  • Continually improve teaching skills by seeking out constructive feedback and professional development opportunities.


  • Maintain accurate and complete records, including but not limited to: attendance, behavior, student achievement data, grades, progress reports, parent communication, text books, etc.


  • Support the success of all EAGLE Schools; sharing best practices with other school leaders and providing input to improve regional and school teams.


  • Coordinate and facilitate the school’s literacy intervention program


  • Coordinate and facilitate the schools Dyslexia screener, benchmark assessments, and progress monitoring


  • Work collaboratively with teachers to identify the literacy needs of students, set learning goals and targets, and problem solve with teachers to develop best practices for continuous academic growth of students in literacy


  • Assist teachers with the collection of data, analysis of data results and supports the sharing of findings with all staff


  • Review student achievement and assist with placing students in appropriate reading and writing intervention and support services


  • Teach targeted literacy intervention to small groups of students daily using research-based strategies and resources

  • Coordinate Title I Reading and Math nights to engage families in activities they can do outside of school to reinforce and enhance student learning


  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Establish a positive, achievement-oriented and structured learning environment where all scholars are invested in their academic excellence and character growth and can fulfill their potential


  • Set measurable, ambitious, and attainable goals for the year and each interim assessment cycle


  • Evaluate individual scholar academic progress through regular and varied assessments



Qualifications

  • Strong instructional and classroom management skills


  • Bachelor’s degree or higher required

  • State Teacher Certification required


  • Reading endorsement required


  • Specialty or highly qualified credential desired


  • At least 1-3 years of teaching experience, urban experience a plus


  • Experience working with students and families in low-income urban communities



  • Exceptional MS Excel Skills and strong skills in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook


  • Proven track record of student achievement results
